Oh, I forgot how amazing this is. I was a lucky child to have this in my life (and thanks to VHS, to be able to watch it over and over again). The music is beautiful, the animation dreamy, the latino birds adorable, and Donald, annoying. Thank you, Buzzfeed, for bringing this back into my life.

I was so excited when I saw the Paris Vogue Fall/Winter 2012 Collections magazine at Barnes & Noble today - I can’t remember the last time I saw one sold in this area. I estimated its worth to be around $15-20 (OH naive me) - I mean, I bought the Elle Fall/Winter collection in 2007 - it was really large and I think imported as well, and it wasn’t more than $15! Anyway, with all my blind glee and excitement, I brought it to the register, the man rung it up and his jaw practically hit the register (an adorable old man with a thick european accent? i think?). He yelled “$42! That is so expensive!” At first I thought he said $22, which made sense to me, but we each repeated those respective numbers to each other back and forth until it hit me that this magazine was actually forty-two dollars.

He was like, “NOOOO, that can’t be!” And then put on his adorable little glasses, furrowed his brow and analyzed the listed price on the cover. He was exasperated— “it’s 200 marks in Denmark!” And then he looked at the US listed price and said “nooo, it says here only $9.95! Can you take a look at that for me?,” shoving the magazine toward me and then immediately turned to his computer - he was convinced it was listed wrong in the system and wanted to make this right for me (bless his heart). I looked at the US listing price, and replied, “Nope - that definitely says $39.95 - you were right the first time.” He calculated and said that number to himself out loud, I guess in order to convince himself that this was the actual price: “So $39.. and then the tax must be… so yes, I guess it is $42. That is farrr too expensive! Are you sure you still want to buy this?” (Now I DID ponder it back and forth, as we were figuring out this whole thing. But at this point I was even too embarrassed to buy the thing, as this guy would clearly think I was crazy. Plus, a fellow cashier was quietly eavesdropping. He was totally judging me.) I politely declined - and was really happy that he was more shocked than I was and was practically advocating me not to buy it.
